ARCS Model (Mads 02)
Well, well, well... blog post time. Talking a little about the models we use.
We have decided that ARCS model and Self Determination Theory, fits our app the best. The app depends on the player's intrinsic motivation, the motivation coming from them wanting to self improve their cooking skills.
The app allows the player to have a lot of wiggle room when it comes to learning the various dishes. The player gets recipes, tips and tricks; a recipe every day (that isn't always new but when leveling up they may unlock new recipes). Whilst cooking, some may be stuck and ask for help, as tips. It will include optional challenges and extras; also known as side quests and tricks, if the player is in the mood to extras.
The rating system will help the player the get motivated to do their best or to better their skills next time when others may judge them.
Our game shares traits with the ARCS model as well. Since we have a colourful (if we were to make an actual app) selection of foods, and the game fundamentally works as an RPG; will keep the player's attention. It's very relevant to the player to learn making foods themselves and understand the relationship between food and health, because they themselves are motivated to get started. The recipes will provide an estimated time and rewards for completing them, the player will gain confidence because they have a clue of when they are finished and they will be rewarded for their efforts. (leveling up, animation reward and rating) The player will most likely be satisfied with their results when finishing a dish and see how one evolves in real life.
