Designing a dish in unreal (Tobias 03)
A lot of setup/preparation was needed to get to a point where we could set up a dish reliably and design it, I displayed various methods and techniques to spice up the visual design throughout, such as adding a looping video to simulate an instruction and adding visually fitting imagery to the countries and dishes with a background blur on top. The prototype also has a lot of weird design choices based around the fact that we have had no assets or graphics to really work with.
When a country is unlocked we set up 3 dishes of varying difficulties to show an example layout of the real thing, in reality only a few of the dishes work to show the rest of the process. For Norway I decided on porridge and started working around that, while porridge is not a national dish it is still a common traditional norwegian dish, often associated with christmas, it is also really easy to make and explain how to make so it ended up being a good fit all around.
From there I basically just made a bunch of widgets, set up functionality to scroll back and forward between them and set up a coin amount to be added at the end. The slides started with a quick description of the dish and tidbits about it, then what you would need of ingredients and tools followed by slides with the instructions and ended with a result screen and the award.
